The Lowndes County Cattlewomen’s Association named its 2016 Father of the award winner and its annual scholarship winner at Southern Sportsmen Lodge in Tyler, Tuesday, June 21.
Mary Pate, president of the association, and Tammy Meadows, chaplain of the group, announced Michael Dansby of Hope Hull as Father of the Year and Gray Johnson as the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship.
Dansby is co-owner of a waste disposal company and ranches in Lowndes and Montgomery counties with his brother Ladon Dansby.
Michael Dansby has been a resident of Lowndes County his whole life attended Lowndes Academy and the University of South Alabama. He and his wife Allyson have two sons, Cooper, and Crawford. ages 10 and 8 1/2-years-old, who he describes as “a hand full. They’re all boys.”
Pate said the Father of the Year is selected by a vote of the membership, which was unanimous this year.
She said Dansby is a “great person, who gives back to his community” and was described by his family as “awesome, a good football and baseball coach, helps us with our problems, and he’s definitely the spiritual leader of the family.” More they said he loves and supports them and, “He makes us laugh.”
Meadows said to be eligible for the scholarship, one must a Lowndes County graduating senior, and the grandmother or mother of the recipient must be a member of the Cattlewomen Association. Johnson is the son of Harold and Mary Pate of Lowndesboro. He is a graduate of Lowndes Academy and will attend Southern Union in the College Bridge Program through Auburn University, after which he will attend Auburn University.
