The LCIA (Lowndes County Improvement Associaton) held an organizational development meeting on Thursday Aug. 18 at Hayneville Church of Christ where officers were elected.
According to Dr. O.L. Hubert, Officers include Hubert, president /interim executive director, Barry Robinson, first vice president, Willie Payton, second vice president, Barbara McCartha, secretary, Cora Bolling, financial secretary, Carmeletia Arnold, treasurer, Willie Arnold, parliamentarian and attorney Norman Hurst, legal counsel.
The LCIA is a non-profit community based organization committed to promoting community unity and improving the quality of life for individuals from a wholistic perspective; mentally, physically, spiritually, educationally, economically and politically.
The association’s motto is “For where there is unity, there is strength and power…The time for change is now, If not now then when?”
Hubert said there was 30 plus people in attendance representing communities of Hayneville, Letohatchee, Calhoun, Ft. Deposit, Gordonville, Collirene, Montgomery and Prattville.
He expressed a special salute to the Letohatchee and Calhoun community for their overwhelming support.
Hubert said there was further discussion of proposed 30-bed critical/access hospital with a 24-hour emergency room and adjacent medical or professional complex in Hayneville and a medical center professional pharmacy and dental care complex in Fort Deposit.
He said Rush Medical Foundation/ Health Services Division, a Meridian, Miss.
rural based hospital management firm, has expressed interest in these
economic development projects in Lowndes County.
Hubert said in addition that another economic development project is being proposed at the Interstate 65, Alabama Highway 97 Exit 151, A Pilot travel
center, if the sewage system can be extended out to this exit.
Hubert that this information is being referred to David Hutchison, executive director of the Lowndes County Economic Development Commission or his assistant for immediate follow up and development.
He said , The new Love and proposed Pilot Travel Center will generate new employment opportunities and tax revenue for the county as well as support the hospital and medical center projects.”
He also said LCIA “will be committed to addressing issues” as they relate as they to health, education/vocational tech, economic development, public/government affairs, senior affairs religious affairs, legal affairs, political affairs and fund-raising
grantsmanship.
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Sept.15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hayneville Church of Christ.
