Despite falling to Zion Chapel 56-22, Friday night, The Calhoun School alumni and fans had much to smile about at Homecoming 2016.
Though the Tigers trailed 42-0 at the half, they did not give up. There was an impressive homecoming court and much food, fun and fellowship.
The highlights of the game for Calhoun were Lewis Smith, who scored two touchdowns, DeMarco Jiles, who scored one touchdown, and Timwuan Carter who scored both 2-point conversions. Johnny Allen also recovered a fumble for Calhoun.
Jiles scored on a jet sweep while Smith scored on a quarterback sneak and a designed quarterback run for 80-yards.
Calhoun head football coach Bill E. Lamar said of his team’s performance, “Overall, I thought that we didn’t start with the intensity we needed to start with.”
He said his Tigers got complacent though they had a good game plan. However, he said the team didn’t follow through with motivating each other and executing the plan. But he said the team stepped up the tempo in the second half and got more yardage on the runs and were able to throw the ball over the top.
