Lowndes Academy marks 50 years with homecoming win

The Lowndes Academy Rebels defeated Sparta Academy in a regional encounter Friday for homecoming 41-20 to go 6-2, 3-2 in Class A Region 1. And in marking 50 years of tradition, Lowndes Academy recognized seniors, 50 years of classes, homecoming queens across the years and the 2016 homecoming court.
More than 200 people were served at the alumni barbecue.
Homecoming queens who attended included Jenny Coker Smith, 1966; Allyson Lang Boozer, 1967; Carolyn Farrior Boone, 1969; Becky Cooper Oakes, 1970; Mary Gail Rhodes Lowery, 1973; Leanne Middleton Harrell, 1974; Shea Simpson Vitalis, 1976; Rhoda Eagerton Insinga, 1977; Marcia Davis Paulk, 1978; Kim Hooks Franklin, 1982; Carolyn Small Harrell, 1983; Lucinda McCurdy McDuffie, 1986; Natalie Lyon Johnson, 1987; Beth Meadows Rosser, 1988; Abigail Smith Marshall, 1998; Elizabeth Young, 1999; Kristen Harrell, 2000; Rebekah Eagerton Stephens, 2001; Lauren Pettus Harrell, 2002; Mallory Insinga Shook 2004; Michele Sims Clark, 2005; Jordan Pettus, 2008; Jamie Wheeler, 2010; Mary Jean Nall, 2011; Anna Maire Bozeman, 2012; Mallory McCurdy, 2013; Caroline Bennett, 2014; Sarah Anna McIntosh, 2015; Mattie Ann Nall, 2016.
The homecoming court included: Seventh Grade Attendant Christina Abigail Gluschick; Eighth Grade Attendant, Carley Isabella Marvin; Ninth Grade Attendant, Emma Lane Casey; 10th Grade Attendant, Hannah Claire Till; 11th Grade Attendant, Peyton Grace Simmons; 12 Grade Attendant, Dakota Lynne Callaway; Crownbearers Mary Larkin Coker and Andrew Dustin Casey; Elementary King and Queen, Harley Michelle Hooper and Luke Carleton Lovell; and Homecoming Queen 2016, Mattie Ann Nall, who was escorted by her father, Len Nall.
Seniors recognized included Dakota Lynne Callaway, Chloe Alexis Carlton, Savannah Leigh Dail, Sasha Renee Jaworowski, Mattie Ann Nall, Anna Nicole Parrish, Sydney Abby Ray, Brandon Cole Reid, Ashlan Bradi Shepherd, Emily Laine Smith, John William Taylor, Zachary Daniel Till, Keri Anne Ward and James Davis Wheeler.
And while classes across the years were recognized, the first graduating Class of 1967 was represented by Jennie Coker Smith, Keith TIll, Linda Holladay Lyon, Jean Till Styles, Patricia McRee Farrior, Connie Crumn Dismukes and Tommy Genard.
