A Greenville man has been charged with the murder of a Fort Deposit man.

DeSean Powell, 19, of Greenville, has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting of Kenterrian Johnson, 29, of Fort Deposit at the American Legion Building in Greenville.

On Saturday, April 15, at approximately 12:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to the American Legion Building located off of West Commerce Street in Greenville in reference to shots fired.

According to Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn, a party was in progress at the time and a fight broke out in the parking lot. Lovvorn said that during the fight, one individual pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at one of the other individuals involved in the fight.

“The individual was struck multiple times in the abdomen area,” Lovvorn said. “Officers arrived on the scene and found that the victim had already been transported to the emergency room by personal vehicle. The offender had also fled the scene. Investigators worked the scene and spoke to witnesses. They identified DeSean Jamar Powell as a suspect in the shooting.”

Lovvorn said officers were able to locate Powell a short time later and brought him to the police department. The victim, Kenterrian Johnson, a 29-year-old black male from Fort Deposit, was airlifted to Baptist Hospital in Montgomery where he later passed away due to his injuries.

Powell, a 19-year-old black male from Greenville, was charged with murder after an initial investigation was completed. Powell is currently in the Butler County Correctional Facility.
