Corporal Jesse Thornton of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced on Monday, Aug. 7 the fifth arrest in the June 12 Marathon gas station shooting and robbery in Lowndes County.

Thornton said special agents with ALEA’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), with assistance from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, have taken a 17-year-old juvenile into custody in connection with June 12 shooting and robbery.

Thornton said the juvenile was charged with “first-degree robbery,” and, “He will be charged as an adult.”

Thornton said this is the fifth arrest in this case.

Previously, Thornton announced the SBI, with assistance from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force, took Kenchavious Ellis, 21, and Leo Carter, 25, both from Selma, into custody on Friday, July 28.

He said they were charged with first-degree robbery and booked at the John Hulett Detention Facility with a $500,000 bond.

Before that Thornton announced the SBI, with assistance from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s  Office, arrested Katrina Latrese Owens, 40, of Montgomery, who was charged with first-degree robbery and booked at the Lowndes County jail with a $500,000 bond.

And prior to that, Jeremy A. Marvin, an investigator with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that ALEA/SBI agents arrested Dorther Alexander Rogers, 40, of Montgomery on June 16th for robbery in the first degree in connection with the robbery at the Marathon Gas Station located on U.S. 80.

Lowndes County Sheriff John Williams said, Monday, “I’m glad we put that case to rest.”

He said the Lowndes County sheriff’s office is still working on the murders in Benton and Mosses.
