Lowndes County unofficial results released by the Lowndes County Probate Office reflected statewide trends in Tuesday’s unofficial primary election results for U.S. Senate to fill the seat left vacant by current U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Democrat Doug Jones was the clear winner in the Democrat Primary while Roy Moore and Luther Strange will face each other in a Republican Runoff.

Jones was also the clear leader in Lowndes County with 55.03 percent as he was statewide with 65.56 percent with 67 of 67 counties reporting, according to the Alabama Secretary of State’s unofficial results.

Roy Moore was also the leader in Lowndes County with 37.98 percent as he was in the state with 38.90 percent. And Luther Strange was second with 28.40 percent as he was in the state with 32.76 percent with 67 of 67 counties reporting, according to the Alabama Secretary of State’s unofficial results.

As a result, there will be a runoff between Moore and Strange on Sept. 26 to see who will face Jones in the general election.

In Lowndes County, out of 1,571 votes, 975 were cast for Democrats or 62.06 percent and 596 were cast for Republicans or 37.94 percent. The unofficial numbers for Lowndes County reflect 13 of 14 boxes or all but provisional votes.

Democrat: Will Boyd, 69, 7.08 percent; Vann Caldwell, 11, 1.13 percent; Jason E. Fisher, 11, 1.13 percent; Michael Hansen, 14, 1.44 percent; Doug Jones, 536, 55.03 percent; Robert Kennedy Jr., 324, 33.26 percent; Brian McGee, 7, .72 percent; and Charles Nana, 2, .21 percent.

Republican: James Paul Beretta, 1, .17 percent; Joseph F. Breault, 1, .17 percent; Randy Brinson, 4, .67 percent; Mo Brooks, 118, 19.83 percent; Dom Gentile, o; Mary Maxwell, 2, .34 percent; Roy S. Moore, 226, 37.98 percent; Bryan Peeples, o; Trip Pittman, 74, 12.44 percent; and Luther Strange, 169, 28.40 percent.
