The Town of Hayneville has been awarded $10,000 to address the environment in certain homes for person with Asthma.

According to Helenor Bell, economic development director for Hayneville, and Mayor David Daniel, the town received the funds because of a written proposal based on the scoring from the Shark Tank Presentation she made on June 23 at Morehouse School of Medicine, the Satcher Health Leadership Institute and the Cohort Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI).

Bell said, “We have assessed homes which have citizens with asthma.” She said, “We found that some people need screens on their windows because they are not able to let their windows up to get fresh air. So, this would provide screens for the windows, screens for doors.”

She said, “There are some places where they’ve had mold in their homes, and we want to replace that, if it doesn’t cost very much.”

Bell said, “It’s only $10,000and we have proposed to do 10 homes. So, we would have an application process and “make sure we get the 10 worst homes.”

Daniel said, “Hayneville continues to work toward innovative ways to create a healthy community.” He also said that he is “very proud of Mrs. Bell as she is very instrumental in the field and is continually working for the betterment of our citizens.”
