There was a good crowd, good food and nearly 50 vendors at Saturday’s Okra Festival, according to John A. Williams Sr., president of REACH (Rural Enrichment Assessing Community Hands), which is now operating the annual event.
Williams said at Saturday’s event, “Everything is going well. We’ve got great weather; we’ve got good people; everybody is enjoying themselves and just happy to be here at its new location.”
Williams said it is REACH’s intention to keep the Okra Festival going. He said the size of the event may even grow as there is additional land available for the event.
He said Saturday there were arts and crafts, good hot food, shirts and good music. And he said, “We just want everybody to enjoy themselves. It’s family oriented, and it’s just get everybody to mingle together.”
RECAH is a non-profit organization that has been in existence for 20 plus years, according to Williams.
He said the organization’s mission is, “To administer quality educational, cultural, recreational, civic and social programs and to engage in activities that will provide for the enrichment for the Lowndes County Community.”
