Calhoun and Central fall on the road

In Friday, Sept. 29 football action the Calhoun Tigers fell on the road at Wilcox Central High 51-0 while the Central High Lions also fell on the road to Monroe County High 40-20.
Calhoun 0-5, 0-2 will play at Luverne in a Class 2A Region 3 contest Thursday, Oct. 5. And Central 2-3, 2-1 will play at Elba in a Class 2A Region 3 game on Friday, Oct. 6.
In action at Monroe County Keegan Blackman connected with Ma’Lek Hill on a 10-yard pass to get the Lions on the board in the second quarter.
He connected with David Baldwin on a 55-yard pass in the in the third quarter for the Lions’ second score.
And Baldwin returned a kick 80-yards for the Lions’ third score of the night.
The Lions got a 2-point conversion after their first touchdown on a Hill run .
Central head football coach Quinn Hambrite said of his team’s performance, “We were sluggish and didn’t capitalize like I thought we should have. We dropped about six or seven balls on the night, three of which were sure touchdowns.”
Hambrite said, “Hopefully we realize what we have and take advantage of it before it’s too late.”
Hambrite said he will do a better job of putting his team in position to make plays a prospective positon.
He said the score in the game was 14-24 before Monroe County scored two defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away. He said those scores came on an interception return and a fumble return.
