Calhoun Basketball

The varsity Calhoun Tigers defeated Greenville in basketball Saturday night, Dec. 2 in a nailbiter 63-62 while the Greenville varsity girls took down the Lady Tigers 61-49.

Jerdarrian Davison, a freshman, led the Calhoun Tigers with 31 points in a contest that would come down to a technical foul shot.

For the Calhoun girls, top scorers were Toni Young and Terelesa McCray with 20 points each.
Calhoun varsity boys head basketball coach Ervin Starr called the boys game with Greenville “ultra exciting.”

Calhoun led 32-25 at the half and 49-39 after three periods. However, Greenville took the lead by 4 points in the fourth quarter before the Tigers tied things up at 62 each with 23 second left in the game.

The Greenville coach was assessed a technical foul with .3 seconds left in the game and Davison hit one of two foul shots to seal the win for Calhoun.

Starr called the final result “awesome.”

Central Basketball

The Central High varsity boys basketball team defeated Southside High School, Selma on Thursday, Nov. 30 at home 74-61. And the Central varsity girls defeated Southside High School, Selma 53-37.

Kentravious Dudley led the Lions with 25 points while Kentavious Dudley chipped in 14 points. Derrick Griffin led Southside with 17 points.

Derrica McCall led the Central varsity girls with 18 points and Destiny Davis led the Southside varsity girls with 14 points.

Central varsity boys basketball coach Brian Coleman, “We started out real slow, but we did play out the game I was wanting us to play not living or dying by the 3-pointers. So, overall I felt pretty good about the win.”

Lowndes Academy Football

Jon Johnson and Buddy Johnson were recently named Alabama Independent School Association football All-Stars from Lowndes Academy. And Olivia Walker, Avery Morgan, Madison Grey and Madolynn Headley were recently named AISA All-Star cheerleaders from Lowndes Academy.

Lowndes Academy head football coach Bob Taylor said of his football All-Stars, “It is a great honor for these players for them to be selected. I am proud of each one of them.”
