Lowndes County District Attorney Charlotte M. Tesmer said Chunaris Deon Grant, 35, of Lowndes County, was convicted by a Lowndes County jury Thursday, April 19 of shooting into an occupied vehicle, three counts of assault in the second degree and leaving the scene of an accident.

Tesmer said the conviction arose from a 2016 incident on Lowndes County Road 17. According a report in the Lowndes Signal, Lt. Jeremy A Marvin of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office said he arrested Chunaris Grant, 33, of Mosses (at the time) on Wednesday, Feb. 24th following a Feb. 15th incident that began at a club in Gordonville.

He said Grant allegedly waited outside the club, followed three ladies in their car, ran them off the road and fired shots into the vehicle.

Marvin said the incident happened at 2 a.m. He said, “One girl got ejected from the vehicle, one got airlifted to Birmingham, and the other was treated at Baptist South and released.”

Marvin said he was able to place Grant at the scene and arrested him. In addition, Marvin said, Grant was on federal probation.

‘I am very pleased with the verdict,” Tesmer said.
