Alabama Power, quick 10 a.m. update: Work to restore power continues across central Alabama. Statewide, there are approximately 20,000 Alabama Power customers without service. Of that number, 5,360 are in central Alabama. Crews continue to work as safely and quickly as possible to restore service to remaining customers.
Currently, outages exist in the following areas: Montgomery (1,720 customers), Deatsville/Titus areas: (1,000 customers), Prattville (900 customers), Chilton County (630 customers), Selma (290 customers), Tallapoosa County (230 customers) and Wetumpka (100 customers). Widely scattered outages also exist in Auburn, Fort Deposit, and Millbrook.
Important safety reminder – please stay away from downed power lines. Always assume the line is live and do not attempt to remove tree limbs or any other object from a downed line. To report a downed line, please contact Alabama Power at 1-800-888-2726.
And within the past five hours: Pioneer Electric Cooperative reported: Outage Update: Our crews are still working to restore an outage impacting Dallas and Lowndes counties. We hope to restore power to our whole membership shortly. Thanks for your patience as our crews have worked diligently throughout the night. #PioneerPowered.

Also of note: Yesterday, Memorial Day, May 28 at 4:52 p.m. the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office reported there was a single vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 80 westbound and Lowndes County Road 9 involving a power poll, with power out in the area.

At 8:12 p.m. the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office reported the U.S. Highway 80 West and Lowndes County Road 9 accident had been cleared up and that power should be restored.
