Lowndes Academy falls to Macon East on road 35-14
Turnovers hurt Rebels on road in Friday, Sept. 28’s 35-14 loss at Macon East.
“We played hard,” Lowndes Academy head football coach Shane Moye said. But Moye said his Rebels suffered a turnover 45 second before the end of the first half, which allowed Macon East to score on the next play.
“That hurt us bad” and was a “huge momentum shift,” Moye said.
The first-year head football coach said his team’s offensive and defensive line play, however, continued to be “excellent.”
Moye said Mason McCurdy ran the ball hard and Tyler Smith threw two big touchdown passes to Zack Miller.
The 4-2, 1-1 in Class AA Region 2 Rebels will go on the road to face South Choctaw in a regional contest on the road Friday, Oct. 5.
Calhoun falls to Red Level 54-0 on the road
Turnovers, three interceptions and two fumbles, proved the downfall of the Calhoun Tigers in a 54-0 loss on the road at Red Level Friday night, Sept. 28.
Calhoun head football coach Ervin Starr took the blame for Friday’s lopsided loss upon himself.
“I did not have the guys prepared and did not have a good game plan,” Starr said.
He said he didn’t call effective plays, had some of his players playing out of position and said he has to do “a better job as a coach to give these young men a chance to win.”
After a scoreless first half, the Tigers began to self-destruct.
The Tigers drove to the Red Level 25 when Calhoun quarterback Travon Brown threw a backward pass that got away and was recovered by Red Level.
The Tigers trailed 21-0 at the half, but came out flat in the third quarter and turned the ball over again on its first possession.
Red Level pushed the score to 40-0 by the end of the third quarter.
The home team recovered a blocked punt in the end zone. And they scored on an 18-yard quarterback run with 10 seconds left in the game.
Now at 0-5, 0-3 in Class 2A Region 3 play, the Tigers will go on the road Friday, Oct 5 to face regional opponent New Brockton.

The Lions are 0-5, O-3 in 2A Region 3 Lions will travel to face regional opponent Samson, Friday, Oct. 5.
