The trial of Lowndes County triple murder suspect Deandra Marquis Lee continued for a second day in the Charles Smith Sr. Courthouse Annex in Hayneville on Friday, Oct. 19, and will continue there Monday, Oct. 22 due to a bat infestation at the Lowndes County Courthouse.

Lee is on trial for the murders of 9-year-old twins Jordan and Taylor Dejerinett from Montgomery and their 73-year-old caretaker Jack Mac Girdner of Hope Hull.

On June 5, 2012, their bodies were discovered by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation on a dirt road off Alabama Highway 21 near Hayneville, three miles south of U.S. Highway 80.

Lee faces a total of six capital murder charges, three capital murder charges for the murder of the victims during a robbery, two capital murder charges for the killing of a child less than 14 and one capital murder charge for the killing of two or more people.

Friday jurors watched a video of an interrogation of Lee and a conversation between Lee and his mother.

In the video during the interrogation, Lee could be heard to say, “I didn’t do this.” And he could be heard to say he had enemies who were going to say things.

In the video with his mother, Lee could also be heard to say, “I didn’t do this, mama.”

His mother could be heard to say, “Now three people are dead, and I pray that you did not do this.”

She could also be heard to tell Lee,”If you didn’t do this, stand your ground.”

Also in the videos Lee was told the charges he faced and that there were warrants for his arrest.

Lowndes County 2nd Judicial Circuit Judge Terri Bozeman Lovell recessed court Friday until 9 a.m. Monday at the Charles Smith Sr. Courthouse Annex.
