According to the National Weather Service a flood warning continues for the Alabama River at Montgomery until Tuesday, Jan. 1. And Lowndes County Engineer David Butts Lowndes County Road 40 is being closed at the Benton Bridge.

It is forecast that the Alabama River will continue to rise to 37.7 feet after midnight tonight and will fall below flood stage early Tuesday, Jan. 1.

The public is advised not to drive through flooded areas. The target area includes Autuaga, Dallas, Elmore Lowndes and Montgomery counties.
