Everything from venison meatloaf to fired pheasant was on the menu at Hayneville Baptist Church last Sunday.

The annual Wild Game Supper took place at the church and a love offering was taken to help send students to camp this summer.

“Normally we have a live speaker, but this year we wanted to do something different,” organizer Adrian Johnson said. “We wanted do something with a message in it — something spiritual.”

That message was both spiritual and humorous as the crowd enjoyed a video by Ken Davis, author of 12 books and president of Lighten Up Ministries, which produces inspirational live shows, DVDs, messages and books.

“We have an opportunity each and every day to submit our lives to Christ,” Johnson told the group before the DVD was played.

The event also featured a variety of door prizes for the more than 100 attendees, courtesy of local stores and the men of the church.

“It’s always a joy for the men of the church to come and cook,” Johnson said. “It’s one of the most joyous things we do because most of us like to hunt. We like sharing with everyone. As for hunting, there’s no better way to spend time with our creator.”

Johnson said Hayneville Baptist had hosted the Wild Game Supper for at least 10 years.

“We do a lot of outreach events,” he concluded. “We like to invite everyone from the community to come and enjoy the food and a good spiritual message.”
