Mosses residents celebrated the opening of the town’s first park on Saturday.
“It’s a wellness park where the kids can come and enjoy themselves,” Mosses Police Chief DeMarcus Weems said. “It’s the first park in Mosses’ town history. It was a great event.”
The park was funded by federal and state grants, and has a track, playground, basketball court and an area for families to host picnics and barbecues with a brand new barbecue grill. It’s enclosed by a five foot fence to keep animals out.
“It’s very important to have a park because so much is going on and now citizens have an opportunity to come to a place where there’s peace,” Chief Weems said. “There aren’t any illegal activities going on and everyone can come together where there’s a good family atmosphere.”
The park is located at Mosses Town Hall and will be open from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m. Pets, ATVs, and alcohol are not allowed on the property.
