Proceedings in a legal case involving county commissioner Charlie King, Jr. are awaiting a new prosecutor before the case can move forward, said District Attorney John Andrews.

The case began in March, when King and Thomas Rudolph, an acquaintance, had a dispute over a vehicle that ended in King’s arrest for harassment and Rudolph’s arrest for first-degree theft of property.

Since then, District Judge Terri Bozeman and Andrews have recused themselves from the case.

“I felt like there was a conflict, and any time there’s a case against a public official that we deal with all the time, it’s better to recuse yourself,” Andrews said.

Andrews said that District Judge Tom Sport from Crenshaw County has been appointed to hear the case, but a new prosecutor hasn’t been set yet.

“I’ve written the attorney general and asked him to have someone appointed to try the case, but I don’t know if they’ve appointed anyone yet,” Andrews said.

Andrews also said that he didn’t know how long it would be before the case came to trial.
