Alabama District 23 Senator Malika Sanders-Fortier has been visiting school systems in her district recently, awarding much-needed grant money the schools can use to improve instruction for students in our area.

In Lowndes County, Sanders-Fortier delivered a check for $7,500, that will bolster the county’s Career Technical Education Program, a program that is of great benefit and need to and for the students enrolled in the program.

Funding for the program better equips teachers and administrators to prepare the students they teach for life after high school. Not all students will receive an athletic or academic scholarship to a college or university, and career tech serves as a way to teach students skills that will benefit them within industrial, technical, mechanical, and a variety of other career fields in need of workers.

According to www.salary.com, the average annual salary for a welder in the United States is $43,910, while an electrician’s average annual salary is $52,957, thus students who can leave high school with such learned skillsets can earn an excellent wage and make a significant contribution to the companies they work for and the people those companies serve.

We applaud Senator Sanders-Fortier for her continued commitment to aiding schools within her district, and we hope she can bless a few more schools before her term in office ends this year.
