A local restaurant is currently accepting applications for their Christmas Giveaway, which is aimed at taking some of the load off of a local family during the Christmas holiday. In the spirit of giving, Life Restaurant will be choosing one Fort Deposit family to bless this holiday season.

Owner LaShunda Brown said that this is a first for the restaurant and hopes that the outreach will provide some relief to a deserving local family.

“Usually I do the Angel Tree, but this year I just wanted to do something that was a little more impactful for the family,” Brown said. “With buying for Christmas and everything that goes along with that, you still have to survive afterwards, so this is a way for us to give back to the community where we are.”

While there are often programs to aid in providing toys for children of families in need, Brown said that the inaugural Christmas Giveaway will go beyond in hopes of ensuring that all members of the deserving family who is chosen for sponsorship are able to take time to rest and enjoy the holiday. 

“What we’re doing with this giveaway is we are going to buy toys for the kids from their wishlist, we’ll pay one of the family’s utility bills, and we will provide a Christmas dinner that will feed up to six people,” Brown said. “We just ask that the families who apply truly be in need. Sometimes when things are free people just come and get it, but this is going to be for a family who is really struggling.”

There are certain eligibility requirements for those interested in applying which include a financial cap, as well as requiring that the family have children. Applicants must also be a resident of Fort Deposit.

Eligibility applications are available for pickup from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at Life Restaurant which is located at 881 Old Fort Road East in Fort Deposit. The deadline to turn in eligibility forms for consideration is Dec. 21.
