Libraries in Lowndes County partner with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library to bring books into the homes of Lowndes County children.

The local library has become an affiliate, partnering with the organization which has, to date, supplied 229,832,740 books to nearly three million children around the world. Thanks to help from an Alabama set-aside grant funding literacy, the state matches money raised by the Greenville library, helping children develop a love of reading and gain the skills they need for success.

As a little girl, Dolly Parton had big dreams. She launched the reading initiative in 1995 to help children achieve their own dreams.

Educators know that with strong reading and comprehension skills, individuals are locked out of many opportunities in life. Without the tools needed to navigate school and manage personal affairs, many people find themselves unable to reach their childhood dreams or break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness which often accompanies illiteracy.

Libraries have many programs and resources to help connect communities with life skills. The partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library is one of the many ways local libraries help children and families on their way to a bright future.
