At Hope Inspired Ministries (HIM), Lowndes County residents received assistance and training to navigate some of life’s most difficult circumstances. Career coaches are a vital part of the program, providing the tools and education necessary to reach their personal, educational and career goals.
Lowndes Career Life Coach Dakus Sankey, Jr. was honored recently as HIM August Employee of the Month. Sankey is described as having an “infectious positive attitude” that brings joy to students. He also exhibits flexibility by working across multiple HIM campuses throughout Alabama.
“What inspires me is to help people,” Sankey said. “I have been in a rut in my life. During 2020, with COVID-19, I was depressed and struggling with anxiety. So, I prayed and God helped me through that season of my life.
“I’ve always wanted to help people. Whenever I see HIM students, I see them getting out of the rut. That’s what motivates me to get up and go to work.”
Jessica Fails, HIM site director for Lowndes County, Sankey displays a passion for people, no matter what issues they have.
“He has a passion and compassion for people,” Fails said. “He believes that everybody deserves a second chance. He shows them he cares and that makes a significant impact in their lives.”
