The Lowndes County Sheriff is seeking information after an early-September theft at the Dollar General in Letohatchee.
Tony Green, commander of investigations with the Sheriff’s department, said investigators are looking to talk with a Black female they describe as a person of interest in connection with a theft at the store on Sept. 7 around 5 p.m.
“On Sept. 7 a female entered the Dollar General store to make a purchase with what we believe is a fake or counterfeit card,” Green said. “She received $1,500 from the store.”
According to Green, the woman purchased three $500 gift cards with an invalid payment card. Investigators are as yet unsure whether the incident was intentional fraud or an honest mistake.
“That’s what we’re trying to figure out,” Green said. “We need to talk to her to discover whether there’s some sort of legitimate explanation.”
Surveillance video from the scene shows the woman arriving and leaving in a silver Chevrolet Camaro, with twin black stripes running front to back along the center of the hood, top and trunk of the car.
“We’ve got a vehicle and a picture of her face,” Green said. “We hope local residents can help identify her.”
Anyone with information related to the case or the woman’s whereabouts should contact Lowndes County Sheriff’s Investigators at (334) 425-1143.
