Lowndes Academy hosted Edgewood for homecoming Friday, dominating the Wildcats with 45 unanswered points for a shutout win.
“We found a way to win, and we played good,” said Rebels’ Head Coach Shane Moye.
Jeremy Hardy put the Rebels on the board with a 42-yard run, the first of four touchdowns the junior would secure. A true kick by Watters Box secured Lowndes Academy’s lead.
“Watters is a veteran kicker,” Moye said. “He sees an opening and gets it in there.”
An interception would give Hardy his second touchdown and a good PAT pushed the Rebels ahead 14-0 in the second quarter.
Ashton Yelder took down the Edgewood quarterback for a safety. Then, Hardy made a dash for his third touchdown, ending the first half with Lowndes ahead 22-0.
Edgewood fumbled the punt and the Rebels took over in Edgewood territory. Bradyn Stokes reached the end zone with a quarterback keeper and Edgewood ran the clock down to begin halftime.
The Rebels recovered an onside kick to start the second half, when Hardy scored on a rush. On the next possession, Box intercepted the ball and returned it 20 yards to put the Rebels up 35-0.
Just before the fourth quarter, Tyler Holligshead ran three yards for a touchdown. Then in the fourth, Box completed a successful field goal, to finish the night with a 45-0 victory.
Moye said that in spite of the win, the Rebels have work to do for a return to state.
“I was a little disappointed because we played sloppy in the first half,” Moye said. “We had some penalties and turnovers. We’ve got to clean that up if we want to be there in the end. Overall, the kids still found a way to win.”
The Rebels host Clarke Prep on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
