Commissioners transact county business Tuesday

The Lowndes County Commission discussed business important to area citizens at it’s Tuesday, Oct. 15 meeting.
Business the commission transacted included:
* Approving advertising a job opening for a building maintenance worker;
* Accepting road department materials bids from Wiregrass Construction (asphalt mix), Hunt Refining (liquid asphalt), Tractor and Equipment (motor grader blades), Ozark Striping (striping), Vulcan Materials (crushed stone), Casey Propane (propane), Chappell Tire Service (tires), Northwest Supply (pipe), Davison Oil (lubricants), Ellis Oil (fuel) and Helena (herbicide);
* Appropriating $1,000 to Life Changing Community Ministries and $1,500 to Central Head Start;
* Requesting County Attorney Prince Chestnut email commissioners the drafts of a contract for garbage service with Martin Environmental and a franchise agreement with Hayneville Telephone Company;
* Appropriated $9,800 to the Lowndes County Public Schools STEM program; and
* Appointing Thomas as contact on the county’s Sam’s card.
