The Lowndes County Career Technical Center (LCCTC) announced its teacher and students of the month Monday, recognizing the excellence of an instructor and learners working towards career readiness.

Business education instructor Bridget Davis was selected as teacher of the month and described as a team player who is always willing to go the extra mile for whatever is asked of her. 

“Ms. Davis works very diligently with our Career Center students,” said LCCTC Director Shameka Baker. “She instills a simulated-workplace classroom, where students have to clock in and clock out. They have to be on time, which is a skill that they will also need as they travel into post-secondary education or employment. So, she’s already starting now to ensure that the students are following the expectations of the business industries that they will need when they are on their own.”

All students in Davis’s Business Software Application II course have completed and earned their Microsoft Word skills certificate. Her students have one more certificate to earn in PowerPoint, and they will have obtained their (career technical education) CTE Credential by the end of the school year.

“This recognition means the world to me,” Davis said. “It gives me confirmation that I’m doing what I need to do as a teacher.”

According to Baker, CTE instructors have the opportunity to nominate one student each month for recognition who has exemplified excellence in the program. Davis said this month, she nominated Jamiya Fleeton who has been focused and takes initiative to learn how to be a leader.

“Jamiya Fleeton consistently demonstrates exceptional leadership qualities and a willingness to help both her instructors and classmates,” Davis said. “She takes initiative whenever tasks need to be completed, ensuring that our classroom runs smoothly.” Davis said Fleeton’s ability to manage responsibilities with confidence and grace sets a wonderful example for her peers. Her positive attitude and supportiveness make her a cherished member of our class. 

Richard Smith was nominated by his computer science instructor, Kaneka Threatt, because he shows dedication and excels in understanding the core concepts of AP Computer Science Principles. 

“He has excellent leadership skills and takes an active role in mentoring his peers,” Threatt noted in the nomination. “He demonstrates excellent problem solving ability. He is able to solve complex problems through programming, logic, and creativity.”

Alicia Brazil is an exceptional student, nominated by her agriscience instructor, Kelsey Thomas. 

“She displays character education through compassion, honesty, trustworthiness, optimism, and responsibility,” Thomas said in the nomination. “She demonstrates exceptional academic performance, exemplary behavior, outstanding participation in class, and always has a positive attitude towards learning.”

Sajatta Moore displays great leadership skills, as described by modern manufacturing instructor Dan Davis. 

“She is a leader in the classroom and helps assist wherever she is needed. She shows character education through compassion, honesty, trustworthiness, optimism, and responsibility,” Dan said.
