Lowndes County Public Schools (LCPS) invites the community to events celebrating the 58th annual 4-5 Classic between local rivals Central High School in Hayneville and The Calhoun School.
Lowndes County School Superintendent Samita Jeter noted the importance of the decades-old contest for county communities.
“The Central vs. Calhoun games always bring fan and family-friendly fun,” Jeter said. “From the activities at the schools to the friendly banter between alumni, we know that as a community, we stand together.”
The Calhoun School will host the 4-5 Classic, Halloween Edition Meet-N-Greet Social at Samuel Bruce Stadium Oct. 31 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Come out in costume to meet the players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members and directors. Games, inflatables, food trucks and trunk-r-treat activities will be available for family friendly fun for all ages.
Jeter said the celebrations reach across school and team dividers, bringing a sense of family and reunion to the celebrations.
“Many of the students are related, attend church together, or have gone to middle school together,” Jeter said. “Consequently, so did their parents. Each year, we expect the alumni to return and cheer on their school, but most importantly, cheer on our students.”
A tailgate will take place at the school system office located at 80 Commerce Street on Friday, Nov. 1 between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wear colors to show which team you support —navy blue and white for Calhoun or green and gold for Central.
“We look forward to having you,” Jeter said.
On Friday, the 58th Annual 4-5 Classic, is slated for kickoff at 7 p.m. hosted by Central at Sellers Stadium. The winner takes home the 4-5 Classic trophy and football champion bragging rights in Lowndes County.
