A documentary illuminating Lowndes County’s wastewater disposal crisis was featured Saturday at the World Water Film Festival

Black Belt Unincorporated Wastewaster Program President Perman Hardy and Executive Director Sherry Bradley attended the Nov. 17 showing of “FL*shing Injustice” that was part of the festival’s United Nations (UN) World Toilet Day emphasis. Astrid Malter, a filmmaker and printmaker from Brooklyn, New York, produced the film and won the “I Am Water” award at the festival.

Malter contacted Bradley and Hardy in 2023 and expressed her interest in documenting Lowndes County’s sewage disposal crisis and the efforts of BBUWP toward solutions to the decades-old problem. The resulting film has been shown at more than half a dozen film festivals.
