Lowndes County student-athletes are tearing up the courts, nearing the end of roundball season and preparing to take the field for a bit of baseball and softball action. Round 16 is open for Athlete of the Week and the contest is the community’s opportunity to support the student athletes representing Lowndes County.

Nominated for recognition this week are Iyanis Wallace from Central High School, Lowndes Academy’s Haylon Self and Ladarius “Duke” Thigpen, student-athlete at The Calhoun School.

The Lowndes Signal and Lowndes County Athletics are partnering to highlight our young men and women in the Athlete of the Week contest. Thanks to the help of Calhoun Lighthouse, Lowndes Academy and Central High School, Hayneville and our sponsors Blackbelt Unincorporated Wastewater Project and Hayneville QV, we have an opportunity to encourage student-athletes and reward their dedication.
