ALDOT deems Lowndes County Roads impassable

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued a media release Tuesday, designating several roads in south-central Alabama roads impassable. Ice was forming on Lowndes County roads by 11:40 a.m. and by 7 p.m. an update from ALEA alerted motorist that local roads were deemed impassable.

“Lowndes County roads and bridges are deemed impassable from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, until 10 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 22,” said acting Lowndes County EMA director David Butts.

All county-maintained roadways and bridges in Butler, Crenshaw, Lowndes, Pike, Covington, Barbour, Coffee, Dale, Geneva, Henry and Houston Counties are considered impassible as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) reports ice forming on Crenshaw and Butler County roadways and bridges. The agency is monitoring the situation and treating roads as needed.
