The deadline for Lowndes County property taxes is Dec. 31. But penalties will not start until Jan. 4, according to Roslyn A. Smith, tax collector for Lowndes County.

She said the deadline has been extended due to the holidays.

She said the office be closed Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26 for Christmas and Monday, Jan. 2 for New Year’s Day.

The hours of operation are 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
