Two Lowndes County students have been suspended for the remainder of the school year for possession of marijuana.

The action was taken at the Lowndes County Board of Education’s regular Thursday, March 8 meeting held at Jackson-Steele Elementary School in White Hall. Dr. Denise Davis-Maye abstained on the action.

Lowndes County School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Boyd reported that work on the Central High field house is in its final days. He also said HVAC improvements to the Central High gym should be complete by the end of the month.

In other actions, the board unanimously approved:
• Contracts between the board and Laura Stinger and Beverly Barnes-Randolph (assistance and support of select students); Mercedes Braxton (monitoring of Head Start Program-Education); and ACS Technologies (copier for the central office and copier for the Head Start Program, central office).

• Memorandum of agreement with the Alabama State Department of Education (National Center for Construction Education and Research credentialing for the masonry program).

• Licensing agreement with Pel Industries Inc. (apparel, headwear and other merchandise for The Calhoun School).

• January 2012 financial statement for the Lowndes County Head Start Program.

• Revenues and expenditures report, financial statement and payroll registry for January 2012 based on reconciled bank statements.

• Personnel report.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 12 at the central office.
