A Dallas County jury has convicted a Lowndes County man of attempted murder.

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said Frank Carter, 52, of Collirene was found guilty of the charge Tuesday after 45 minutes of deliberation.

Circuit Court Judge Jack Meigs ordered a pre-sentence investigation, and Carter now faces mandatory sentence of life or life without parole, Jackson said.

“Frank Carter’s reign of terror has ended. He needs to pack his suitcase because he is going off to prison for a long time,” Jackson said.

According to a Selma Police Department incident report from April, 2007, the victim, a 29-year-old Selma woman, said she was walking north in the 1400 block of Tremont Street when a grey vehicle pulled next to her and an “unknown black male jumped out of the vehicle and forced her into the vehicle at knife point.”

The report further states that the victim said she was taken to a white trailer off a dirt road somewhere in Lowndes County where the offender “kept attempting to force her to have sex with him, but she wouldn’t comply with him.”

Also according to the report, the unknown black male put her back into the vehicle, drove to a wooded area, snatched her out of the vehicle, slammed her into the ground and choked her until she was unconscious.

The victim stated that when she awoke “the black male was gone and she was covered in blood.”

She stated she walked to the main highway and found the nearest residence to get help.
